Privilege escalation via unchecked federated-share updates
Published Sep 7, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Incorrect privilege assignment in ownCloud Server before 10.8.0 allows remote authenticated users to elevate federated-share permissions. The federated-share permission update path accepts changes from a share receiver without verifying that the requester owns the share. The attacker must receive a federated share and have database access; successful exploitation expands the permissions granted to that receiver.
