Malicious firmware installation via deficient upload validation
Published Jun 7, 2022 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Firmware upload verification bypass in Hitachi Energy TXpert Hub CoreTec 4 allows local users to install malicious firmware. The file-upload validation accepts a firmware image without sufficiently verifying its integrity and authenticity. Exploitation requires local system access and an account permitted to update firmware, after which attacker-supplied firmware can replace trusted device code.
