Authenticated management outage via virtual-host file creation
Published Oct 5, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Resource exhaustion in Wowza Streaming Engine 4.8.11+5 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to interrupt web management. The historical.jsdata handler creates or appends a roughly 280 KB statistics file for every attacker-selected, nonexistent vhost value without limiting filesystem allocation. A valid session with Virtual Host Monitoring privileges is required; repeated distinct values fill the filesystem, trigger database errors, and leave management unresponsive until resources are manually freed.
