Stored XSS via unneutralized image metadata
Published Jul 9, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stored XSS in the image-content editor in dotCMS 21.05.1 allows remote authenticated users to run scripts in another user's browser. The dotAdmin/#/c/c_Images workflow stores crafted Title and Filename values and renders them as active HTML without adequate neutralization. An attacker needs administrative-panel access to create image content, and a victim must view or interact with the stored entry, enabling actions or data access in that victim's dotCMS session.
