Local privilege escalation via unquoted service path
Published Oct 25, 2021 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Kiwi Syslog Server 9.7.2 and earlier contains an unquoted service path flaw that allows local users to gain elevated privileges via executable planting. The Installation Wizard writes an unquoted executable path for the Kiwi Syslog Server service or uninstall entry in the Windows registry, enabling path interception when Windows resolves the command. Exploitation requires local access and high privileges to place an executable in the path; successful execution can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
