Service interruption via enclosure regex backtracking
Published Dec 26, 2022 · Updated Apr 14, 2025
Regular expression denial of service in glob-parent 6.0.0 allows attackers to interrupt a consuming Node.js service via a crafted glob. The enclosure check applies an unbounded greedy regular expression to attacker-controlled strings, causing excessive backtracking on long inputs. Exploitation requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled glob patterns to the library, and the demonstrated consequence is limited to availability.
