Authenticated code execution via unrestricted App Studio upload
Published Jan 13, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Arbitrary file upload in Commvault CommCell 11.22.22 allows remote authenticated users to execute code as NETWORK SERVICE. AppStudioUploadHandler fails to validate user-supplied upload data and accepts an arbitrary file that the server can execute. Non-administrator CommCell access is sufficient, and successful exploitation runs attacker-controlled code with NETWORK SERVICE privileges.
