SYSTEM code execution via attacker-created workflow
Published Jan 13, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Remote code execution in Commvault CommCell 11.22.22 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands as SYSTEM through a workflow. Demo_ExecuteProcessOnGroup accepts an attacker-selected process and arguments when a workflow is created, then runs that process on clients in a chosen group. The interface normally requires authentication, but the affected authorization mechanism can be bypassed, yielding SYSTEM-level confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.
