Administrator escalation via retained transaction security context
Published Jul 27, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Privilege escalation in Neo4j Enterprise 4.2 before 4.2.8 allows remote authenticated users to gain full administrator-level access. An administrative command executed inside a transaction can leave its elevated Cypher security context active for later commands in that transaction. The flaw requires an authenticated database account; read-only administrative commands grant full read access, while write system commands grant full system access, and Aura Cloud before 2021-06-18 is affected.
