Application crash via deep-tile size overflow
Published Mar 31, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Academy Software Foundation OpenEXR before 3.0.0-beta allows attackers to crash an application via a crafted EXR file. DeepTiledInputFile::initialize multiplies attacker-controlled tile dimensions as integers when sizing the sample-count table, allowing overflow before allocation and a later out-of-bounds read in readPixelSampleCounts. Exploitation requires an application to process the file; the documented consequence is availability loss rather than data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
