Root command execution via insufficient CLI input validation
Published Sep 23, 2021 · Updated Nov 7, 2024
Command injection in the CLI of Cisco IOS XE SD-WAN Software allows local users with administrative access to execute commands as root. Certain CLI commands accept crafted input without sufficient validation, allowing command syntax to reach the underlying operating system. Reachability requires an administrative account and the SD-WAN feature, which is not enabled by default, and successful exploitation grants root-level command execution.
