Root code execution via overwritten installer file

Privilege escalation in Cisco IOS XE SD-WAN Software allows local users with PRIV15 access to execute arbitrary code as root. Insufficient bootflash protection lets a PRIV15 user replace a sensitive installer file with commands that subsequently execute at root privilege. Exposure requires the nondefault SD-WAN feature; successful exploitation permits reading and writing the device configuration database.
