Device outage via unreleased OpenSSL resource
Published Aug 31, 2021 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
A resource-release flaw in WAGO 750-series controller firmware FW4 through FW15 allows remote attackers to halt the device. The embedded OpenSSL implementation fails to release a resource after its effective lifetime while processing malicious packets; the specific resource and function are undisclosed. Unauthenticated network access is sufficient, and the resulting service interruption persists until the device receives a power-on reset.
