CVE-2021-3457

Hook execution via missing client authorization

Published May 12, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper authorization in The Foreman Project Smart Proxy Shell Hooks before 0.9.2 allows local users to execute configured hooks. The plugin's Sinatra API omits authorize_with_ssl_client and authorize_with_trusted_hosts, so requests reach its hook-listing and hook-execution routes without the intended client checks. An authenticated local user who can reach the Smart Proxy endpoint can access or delete limited resources and interrupt the Foreman server.
