SYSTEM command execution via pre-logon Save dialog
Published Jun 10, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Privilege escalation in NetSetMan Pro before 5.0 allows physically proximate attackers to execute arbitrary commands as SYSTEM. The pre-logon action log exposes a Save File dialog running with SYSTEM authority, and that dialog permits navigation to cmd.exe and launching it as administrator. Exploitation requires physical access and the optional pre-logon profile switch, which is disabled by default, but grants full command execution without Windows authentication.
