Code execution via Maven options command injection
Published Jul 14, 2021 · Updated Aug 10, 2026
Command injection in Microsoft Visual Studio Code before 1.57.1 allows remote attackers to execute code after opening malicious content. The settings.json parser passes the user-controlled maven.executable.options value to a system call without validating the string. Exploitation requires the target to visit a malicious page or open a malicious file, and the injected code runs with the current user's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
