SYSTEM code execution via unsafe pointer dereferences
Published Jul 14, 2021 · Updated Aug 10, 2026
Privilege escalation in Microsoft Windows allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM through the Canonical Display Driver. The cdd.dll driver fails to validate user-supplied values before dereferencing them in multiple drawing operations; related paths also dereference NULL pointers. Exploitation requires existing low-privileged code execution on the target and grants complete SYSTEM-context control.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
