Local privilege escalation via elevated Internet Explorer
Published Sep 27, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Incorrect privilege assignment in Zoom Rooms for Windows before 5.3.0 allows local users to elevate privileges during installation. The installer can launch Internet Explorer without dropping the elevated token it receives when an administrator or SCCM starts the package. Exploitation requires a locally accessible installation session running with administrative rights; the resulting browser executes in that privileged context.
