Remote code execution via hardcoded SQL credentials
Published Sep 30, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Hardcoded credentials in REINER timeCard 6.05.07 allow remote attackers to execute shell commands through the bundled SQL Server. The com.reinersct.server.dao.db.InstRepGen.PASSWORD() function in TCServer.jar returns the embedded sa password used by the installed database. Reachability requires network access to the exposed SQL Server port; the shared credential grants database administration and operating-system command execution.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
