CVE-2021-33531Network attack vector

Authenticated diagnostic-script creation via embedded password

Published Jun 25, 2021 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Hard-coded credentials in Weidmüller Industrial WLAN firmware allow remote authenticated users to create custom diagnostic scripts. The device operating system embeds an undocumented encryption password that multiple iw_* utilities use when processing diagnostic scripts. Low-privilege device access and network reachability are required, and accepted scripts can perform attacker-chosen diagnostics on the appliance.
