CVE-2021-33528Network attack vector

Root access via restricted-console menu escape

Published Jun 25, 2021 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Privilege escalation in Weidmüller IE-WL(T)-BL-AP-CL and IE-WL(T)-VL-AP-BR-CL firmware allows remote authenticated users to gain root access. The iw_console handler accepts a crafted menu-selection string that escapes the restricted command menu and passes attacker commands to the underlying system. A low-privilege account with network access to the Telnet or SSH console is required, and successful exploitation grants full device control.
