Engine crash via unchecked bytecode-part lookup
Published Jul 26, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in Cesanta mJS before 2.20.0 allows context-dependent attackers to crash the engine via a crafted script file. The bytecode-part lookup returns NULL for an offset outside committed bytecode, but execution dereferences the result without checking it. Exploitation requires a user or embedding application to process the crafted local script; the demonstrated consequence is a process abort, not code execution or data access.
