Browser script execution via unfiltered Controller attributes
Published Jun 24, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site scripting in JFinal 4.9.10 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute script in a user's browser through crafted input. The Controller.set method stores an unfiltered request value as an attribute, and template rendering emits that attribute directly into HTML without context-appropriate encoding. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-controlled input to set and render it in a page, plus a user to load the response; script execution can read or modify data available to that browser context.
