Arbitrary code execution via unsanitized noscript content
Published Jun 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Joplin Desktop before 1.8.5 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code through malicious HTML in a note. The packages/renderer/htmlUtils.ts sanitizer omits noscript from its disallowed-tag list, allowing crafted element content to survive sanitization and reach the note renderer. Exploitation requires user interaction with attacker-controlled note content, and resulting code executes with the desktop application's privileges.
