Authenticated privilege escalation via writable module search path
Published Jun 11, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Privilege escalation in Western Digital EdgeRover before 0.25 allows remote authenticated users to obtain administrative privileges. The Node.js module-loading path accepts files from locations writable by less-privileged users, allowing a planted fake library to execute with elevated rights. A low-privileged account and access to a searched directory are required; successful exploitation enables credential theft and administrative actions.
