Physical information disclosure via incomplete block erase
Published May 12, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025
Information disclosure in Intel SSD and Intel Optane SSD firmware allows physically proximate attackers to read residual data. The firmware's NVMe Sanitize command with Block Erase does not remove sensitive information before the storage resource is reused. Physical possession of an affected drive is required, and the reported impact is limited to disclosure of residual data.
