CVE-2021-32981Network attack vector

Restricted-directory escape via unneutralized path elements

Published Apr 4, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025

Path traversal in AutoBuild for AVEVA System Platform 2017 through 2020 R2 P01 allows remote authenticated users to escape its restricted directory. AutoBuild constructs a pathname from external input without neutralizing special elements, allowing the resolved path to leave the intended parent directory. The network request requires high privileges and an enabled AutoBuild service; chaining with other AutoBuild flaws grants system-level code execution, while AVEVA does not specify the denial-of-service mode.
