Script execution via trailing-space closing-tag bypass
Published Feb 20, 2023 · Updated Mar 10, 2025
Cross-site scripting in Cockpit Next 0.12.2 and earlier allows attackers to execute browser scripts through crafted HTML content. The sanitizer in assets/lib/uikit/js/components/htmleditor.js ignores closing script tags containing trailing spaces, leaving malicious markup executable. The demonstrated path requires access to create an HTML field and entry, and script execution occurs when a user renders the content.
