Remote code execution via exposed string Formatter
Published Aug 2, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Remote code execution in Zope 4.0 through 4.6.2 and 5.0 through 5.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute Python code. AccessControl exposes string.Formatter to restricted Script (Python) objects, whose code can subclass it to reach unsafe Python libraries. Exploitation requires Python 3, Products.PythonScripts, and permission for untrusted users to edit scripts, which the default Manager-only policy denies.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=>= 4.0, < 4.6.3
