Stored XSS via unfiltered wildcard domains
Published Aug 4, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in Pi-hole Web Interface before 5.5.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in an administrator's browser. The /admin/scripts/pi-hole/php/groups.php handler stores unfiltered wildcard-domain input, which is rendered on allowlist and blocklist pages. Exploitation requires administrative credentials to submit a token-bearing request and another administrator to view an affected domain page, exposing that browser session to client-side actions.
