CVE-2021-32753Network attack vector

Authentication bypass via username-derived OAuth2 secrets

Published Jul 9, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Weak credentials in EdgeX Foundry Services Edinburgh, Fuji, Geneva, and Hanoi allow remote attackers to obtain API gateway OAuth2 tokens. The security-proxy-setup tool assigns a proxy user's username to both client_id and client_secret, making the token endpoint susceptible to dictionary guessing. OAuth2 and a tool-created proxy user must be present; a successful guess grants authenticated access to protected EdgeX microservice calls from an untrusted network.
