CVE-2021-32666Network attack vector

Client crash via quote-bearing profile assetID

Published Jun 3, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper input validation in Wire iOS 3.8.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to crash the client via a crafted profile assetID. The profile-picture asset handler accepts an assetID containing a double quote and processes it as valid, causing client termination when the affected profile is loaded. The attacker must be an authenticated Wire user able to supply the malformed profile value; the reported consequence is a client crash, with no data disclosure or modification.
