Unauthenticated access via malformed target URL
Published May 28, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Authentication bypass in Authelia 4.0.0-alpha1 through 4.29.2 allows remote attackers to reach nginx-protected resources. The VerifyGet handler treated a target-URL parsing failure as an HTTP 200 response instead of rejecting the request. Exploitation requires nginx ngx_http_auth_request_module to forward a malformed request URI; successful requests bypass access controls but do not directly interrupt service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
