Authenticated code execution via unchecked Velocity gadget titles
Published May 28, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Code injection in XWiki Platform before 12.6.7 and 12.10.0 through 12.10.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute server-side code. DefaultGadgetSource passes each dashboard gadget title directly to VelocityEngine.evaluate without first checking the document author's Script right. A registered user who can edit a personal dashboard can inject a Velocity expression that instantiates scripting engines and reads files or executes arbitrary code with the application server's privileges.
