CVE-2021-32610

Arbitrary file writes via unchecked symlink targets

Published Jul 27, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper link resolution in PEAR Archive_Tar before 1.4.14 allows local users to write files outside the extraction directory. The _extractList method fails to reject absolute or parent-traversing archive symlink targets before creating the links. Exploitation requires extraction of a crafted archive with symlink handling enabled and permits creation or modification of files writable by the extracting process.
