Stored XSS via unsanitized private messages
Published May 12, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in Smartstore through 4.1.1 allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript in a recipient's browser via a private message. Views/PrivateMessages/View.cshtml passes attacker-controlled Model.Message content directly to Html.Raw without first calling HtmlUtils.SanitizeHtml. Exploitation requires a recipient to open the crafted message, after which the script performs actions with that recipient's privileges, including administrative control when an administrator is targeted.
