Code execution via automatic MIME handler delegation
Published May 11, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Code execution in Xfce Thunar before 4.16.7 and 4.17.0 through 4.17.1 allows attackers to run files via command-line arguments. Thunar treats a regular-file argument as a request to open that file and delegates it to the MIME-associated program without confirmation. Exploitation requires Thunar to be invoked with an attacker-controlled file and executes code with the privileges of the Thunar process.
