Remote code execution via wrapped bitstream rewind
Published Sep 9, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Heap-based buffer overflow in MediaTek Modem LR12A and LR13 allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted 2G message. The rr_decode_3g_individual_priority_para_description function calculates the rewind for repeated FDD-ARFCN elements with 8-bit arithmetic, so 17 elements misalign the second parse and drive writes beyond the counted heap allocation. Exploitation requires connection to an attacker-controlled 2G cellular network; no user interaction or prior privileges are required.
