CVE-2021-32420Public exploit

Process crash via oversized string copy

Published Aug 22, 2023 · Updated Oct 4, 2024

Heap-based buffer overflow in dpic 2021.01.01 allows attackers to crash the process by supplying a crafted pic input file. The storestring function in dpic.y allocates a fixed CHBUFSIZ segment and copies lsrc bytes without rejecting strings larger than the remaining heap space. Exploitation requires dpic to process attacker-controlled input; the demonstrated consequence is an AddressSanitizer-detected abort, with no grounded code-execution or data-disclosure impact.
