Code execution via out-of-bounds height read
Published Sep 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Global buffer overflow in Nokia HEIF through 3.6.2 allows attackers to execute code by supplying a crafted HEIF file. HevcDecoderConfigurationRecord::getPicHeight() reads two bytes beyond a global buffer while deriving image height from decoder configuration data. Exploitation requires a crafted HEIF input to be processed in a local application context with user interaction and can yield arbitrary code execution in that process.
