Code execution via out-of-bounds prediction read
Published Sep 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Heap-buffer overflow in FAAD2 2.10.0 and earlier allows local users to execute code by decoding a crafted MP4 file. In libfaad/lt_predict.c, lt_prediction reads a 16-bit value 122 bytes before its heap allocation while reconstructing a single channel. Exploitation requires a user or application to process attacker-supplied audio; the published reproducer demonstrates a decoder abort, not arbitrary code execution.
