Code execution via out-of-bounds memory copy
Published Sep 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Buffer overflow in Bento4 through 1.6.0-637 allows remote attackers to execute code or disclose memory through a crafted MP4 file. AP4_MemoryByteStream::WritePartial passes an oversized copy length to memcpy, which reads beyond the one-byte global EmptyString buffer while mp4info clones crafted sample metadata. Processing the crafted file is required; the out-of-bounds read discloses adjacent memory or enables code execution.
