Privileged account creation via reflected path HTML
Published Apr 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Reflected XSS in Webmin 1.973 Add Users allows remote attackers to execute script in an administrator's browser through a crafted link. The tunnel/link.cgi handler returns URL-encoded attacker-controlled HTML from its path as active page content, allowing an auto-submitted form to call acl/save_user.cgi. Exploitation requires an authenticated administrator to open the link; the demonstrated consequence is creation of a privileged Webmin account.
