Code execution via misclassified media data entry
Published Sep 13, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Heap buffer overflow in MP4Box in GPAC 1.0.1 allows attackers to crash the process or execute arbitrary code via a crafted media file. Media_CheckDataEntry treated unsupported data-entry box types as URL boxes and passed a misinterpreted location pointer into URL processing. Processing requires user interaction; successful exploitation terminates MP4Box or runs code in its process.
