Unauthenticated patient data access via registration session
Published May 7, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Access-control bypass in the Patient Portal of OpenEMR 5.0.2.1 allows remote attackers to read and alter every patient's data. The registration endpoint leaves pid and register session flags set without completing registration, causing _machine_config.php to set ignoreAuth and expose the portal API. The Patient Portal must be active and reachable, but the bypass works even when new-user registration is disabled.
