CVE-2021-32096Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Remote code execution via CSRF-triggered Ruby eval

Published May 7, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Code injection in the ConsoleAction component of NSA Emissary 5.9.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary Ruby code via CSRF. ConsoleAction reads CONSOLE_COMMAND_STRING from a POST request when CONSOLE_COMMAND equals eval and passes it through RubyConsole.evalAndWait to the Ruby engine's eval function without a CSRF token check. Exploitation requires an authenticated administrator to visit attacker-controlled content, after which Ruby code runs on the Emissary server.
