Sensitive data exposure via unmasked multiline secrets
Published May 7, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Information disclosure in HashiCorp vault-action before 2.2.0 allows remote attackers to obtain secrets from GitHub Actions logs via multiline output. The action fails to register multiline secret values correctly with GitHub Actions masking, allowing emitted log content to retain the secret. Exploitation requires a workflow that imports a multiline Vault secret and produces output containing it; exposed logs can disclose that secret without changing workflow integrity or availability.
