CVE-2021-32061Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Arbitrary file write via unsanitized object keys

Published Nov 29, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Path traversal in S3Scanner before 2.0.2 allows attackers to write files outside the selected dump directory via crafted S3 object keys. S3Service.download_file joins each untrusted object key to --dump-dir and normalizes the result without checking that the path remains inside that directory. Exploitation requires an operator to dump an attacker-controlled bucket, after which the file is written with the operator's filesystem permissions.
