Authentication bypass via unauthenticated RTC changes
Published Jun 16, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Authentication bypass in Protectimus SLIM NFC 70 10.01 allows physically proximate attackers to obtain valid future TOTP passwords via NFC. The NFC command interface changes the token's RTC without authentication or coupling the change to its seed, enabling an attacker to advance time, record OTPs, and restore the clock. Brief physical possession is required, and account access additionally requires the other authentication factors, while the recorded OTPs remain usable at their chosen future times.
