Privilege escalation via CEF RPC file deletion
Published Nov 10, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper file deletion in BlackBerry Protect for Windows 1574 and earlier allows local users to delete system data through CEF RPC. The CEF RPC server accepts a low-privileged deletion request and performs it through a Cylance service running with administrative rights. A local low-privileged account is required; successful abuse can delete local data and run code in the privileged service context.
